ABOUT US

Gem is Family.

When a student walks in, he is welcomed into a large home- replete with a living room, kitchen and dining tables. Formal learning and socializing with fellow students or tutors and staff becomes routine. The gardens provide greens, shade ,vegetables and a niche to slip away from it all. Students are free to sit/in on any other class, provided there is a free chair, so faces become familiar, creating a bond that lasts even in Germany. We study together, eat together, Film- binge together, cook and bake together, yes even sleep together often. When the pressure of the incoming exams is too much, we are on the floor strategizing—and making fun of ourselves. There are more than 450 GEMSTERS now working and residing in Germany. We start with language training, but wind up as a corporate family in the end because

GEM is FAMILY.

COMPANY PROFILE

GEM Language School has been teaching German since 2008 in the Philippines. We have had nearly 500 B2 Passers since 2016. Our history goes back to 2008, when we were asked to start an agency to bring Operating Room nurses to Finland. What started as a single project became a full-time engagement in the training of nurses and other medical personal to Europe. After tutoring the first batch of 65 OR-nurses and 17 chefs, more groups followed. When no one still made moves about Germany, GEM Language School already began teaching German to nurses in 2015. In fact, 55% of the first Triple Win batch included our own B1 passers, because there were no other candidates yet with a B1 language certificate. Since then,we have helped pass over 470 nurses after the bar was raised to B2-level. How do we do it?

Our teaching methods are uniquely formed by years of experience teaching a foreign language to Spanish-speaking, English-speaking, and Filipino-speaking students. Unlike many schools, we firmly believe that in order to successfully teach another a foreign language, one has to speak and explain the difficult grammar and its usage to the learner, using his own language for maximum comprehension and ease. In other words, a Filipino with excellent German can teach best his fellow Filipino!!

Our Head tutor is a TELC licensed examiner for German B2 level both in the general as well as the medical German. She also is a medical doctor who studied Medicine in Germany and specialized in Orthopedics in Switzerland and Sweden. She often flies to Germany and is in the know as to the current demands and complaints of German employers as to the quality of the newly-recruited batches of nurses. This is the reason why other language schools have been hiring GEM graduates as tutors.

German Language Exam Passers

A1 (4 WEEKS, 60 HRS/80 UNITS

Unlike most schools. GEM has the toughest

A1 course. Why so? Because our grammar/laying groundwork includes many grammar rules that are explained in other schools at a much later level.

At A1 level, our students already can use conjugations, verb transfers, build sentences with the two objects, as well as use prepositions properly. From day one, we encourage our students to speak, speak, speak to “make friends” with the German language. This way, the road to learning is made smoother. German is no longer a “foreign” language to his ears.

A2 (6 WEEKS, 120 HOURS / 160 UNITS)

The student can communicate in more complex sentences in the present, past , future and conditional tenses. He is able to communicate in simple and routine tasks, dialogues, exchange ideas in familiar matters, his personal background, work environment, and social engagement.

B1 (10 WEEKS, 200 HOURS / 265 UNITS)

At this level, the student could produce coherent text on topics of personal interest , understand and logically answer causality of things, experienced events, and possibilities. He also could widely describe his hopes, dreams, goals and expectations with a wide array of arguments and contrasts

B2 (10 WEEKS, 200 HOURS / 265 UNITS)

At this level, the aspiring speaker is able to comprehend complicated texts on both concrete and abstract subjects, including specialized technical debates, and grasp their key ideas. He or she is able to communicate in a way that is fluid and spontaneous enough to allow for frequent, stress-free communication with native speakers. The speaker is able to compose concise, well-written texts on a variety of topics and articulate a point of view on a hot-button issue, outlining the benefits and drawbacks of several solutions.

For our Pflege students, this level already includes documentation, patient turn-over, actual patient care, the most common diseases and nursing interventions, legal aspects , insurance questions, liabilities, and interaction with others in a medical team.

We also ensure speed and comprehension in documenting patient anamnese and biography.
